ExactET Releases 2016 Weather Analysis for Climate Controlled Irrigation

<< back to releases

ExactET released their annual Weather Analysis for Climate Controlled Irrigation in Canadian Urban Landscapes (click link below).

The report details the key weather statistics that impacted the frequency of outdoor watering in 2016 under Climate Controlled Irrigation in six of the major urban markets in Canada: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.

The report highlights the differing summer in Western Canada versus the East.

Eastern Canada experienced extremely hot and dry conditions for most of May to August, resulting in a significant increase in outdoor water usage.  By way of example the average irrigation frequencies in Toronto were 44 in 2016, versus 30 in 2015 and only 22 in 2014.  There ware several weeks this summer where 4 day per week watering in Toronto was the norm.

Conversely most of the West experienced an unusually wet summer season, primarily from July onward.  Calgary recorded the second highest rainfall in July since record keeping began, with 160.2mm falling in the month - 191% above normal.
